Rooted Creatives: Love Eternal| Music for an Awakening World

Love Eternal is a collective of musicians dedicated to music as ministry. We see the power of sound vibration and lyrical content, and choose to use it to uplift and heal. We Believe that What you focus on grows, therefor our music and message is positive and affirmative of what we want to see. We Honor all paths, teachings, and traditions that encourage Oneness with the Divine, Eachother, and the Planet.

Hurricane Blow/LoveEternal/Creation

Through a river of cosmic circumstances rises Love Eternal “Music for an Awakening World”. They united as musicians as well as family five years ago near the ocean of Santa Cruz, CA with a common aspiration in mind – developing and producing some of the most gentle, devotional music you’re likely to hear.” They live, create music, and raise their children together in the Santa Cruz mts under a Redwood canopy, as a communal family, which lends to their tightly woven musicianship.

Love Eternal’s unique blend of healing music intertwines the pulsing beats of traditional reggae drumkit with west african and nyabinghi drumming, Paridigm shifting harmonies and lyrics, thumpin rhythmic bass, scratchin guitar, and the unexpected melodies of electric and acoustic mandolins, all tide up with the upbeat groove of pure roots reggae.

In 2003, Love Eternal recorded their debut album, Family to high praise. Their second Album Creation, has sold and recieved airplay all over the world. A third Album Forgiveness is soon to be released, and Love Eternal is looking forward to another blessed year. For more info visit www.loveeternal.org

“Blessed blessed creation…” Homegrown from the forest and ocean areas of Santa Cruz, CA comes a band ripe and ready to share their blessings. The band Love Eternal manifests the etherial while floating roots-reggae past your head. What is that resonating soft warm jasmine breeze swirling through your dreads? It may just be the melodic vibrations of Love Eternal and their transcendent album “Family.” The melodies and vocals on the first track “Love Jah” invokes Irie melting effects on your being. Each song on their CD is like a Jamaican lullaby tapping into your spirit, elevating your soul toward unlimited Godly potential.

“Made for the great outdoors and to be played so the clouds can hear it”

Love Eternal with psychedelic guitars in tow and lovely breathy vocals, is a unique band singing out unified spirit. With music as their guiding tool, they spread more love around than hate exists on the Earth. Their reggae style is earthy and organic. Sometimes it makes you want to sit back and reflect and other times get up and jump in euphoria. Their album’s bouncy reggae style is a sunny day pleasure. Made for the great outdoors and to be played so the clouds can hear it, “Family” offers Caribbean styles mixed with traditional festival originals from the Islands. Teaching the word of Truth, Love Eternal is a harmonic, mellow, groovy group of singers and musicians, that can make a night under the stars magical.

Cozy up to an earth-friendly fire

Green Fire

Can a wood-burning fireplace help cut your heating bill this winter? Or does the air pollution created cancel out any electricity savings?

Is it better to burn cut trees or those fake logs from the supermarket? Let’s look at the facts.

First, according to the Energy Guide, a typical masonry fireplace is a pretty inefficient way to heat a room. At least 80% of the heat escapes up the chimney, plus the fireplace pulls cold air into your house through small gaps around windows and doors.

These “convective heat losses” are bigger than the radiant heat the fire provides. And most fireplaces are poorly insulated, so they conduct room heat outside.

So as far as money savings, that fireplace isn’t helping. All it does is look pretty.

Worse still is the pollution aspect. The American Lung Association finds that wood smoke is to blame for huge amounts of particulate matter air pollution across the U.S. in winter. This causes lower respiratory infections, exacerbation of asthma, and decreased breathing ability in people, especially children and the elderly.

Are we stuck with the video yule log? Well, depends on where you live and how often you burn a fire.

Duraflame‘s new logs made of plant-based waxes, nuts, shells, and wood fiber are a moderate hit with greens like TreeHugger. The manufactured logs burn cleaner and longer than natural wood, so you don’t need to use as much for the same effect.

Green Daily also recommends Java Logs, another manufactured log. This one is made of recycled paper and coffee grounds and, like Duraflame, burns longer than regular wood.

It’s also possible to make your own logs out of newspapers. You’ll want to burn this in combination with other wood, however, to get a longer-lasting fire. But it’s not a bad way to keep old papers out of the landfills.

This video report from CBS 5 notes that Seattle and Portland air districts recommend burning artificial logs if you want a fire this winter. But the news channel also says that the San Francisco Bay Area Air Quality Management District is stricter about all wood smoke, due to worse pollution.

Keep in mind that you probably shouldn’t use manufactured logs in wood-burning stoves, which have special requirements. However, stoves are much more efficient than fireplaces if you actually want to heat your house. Check out the EPA guide for more details.

Chi’bagoda Project-Development of a hybrid for/non profit bamboo housing project.

Chi’bagoda

The goal of Chi’ Bagoda is to develop and explore the potential of bamboo as an accepted and widely used building material with the launching of a new species of sustainable architecture. We hope to introduce a modern bamboo construction system that will work with all species of bamboo across the entire socio-economic spectrum. Chi’ Bagoda will fund these operations by providing prefab bamboo housing kits, adaptable to all climates. We hope to spread our dream and help house those in need by the operation of a non-profit organization which will not only help the impoverished and homeless, but provide a more desirable disaster relief housing system and choreographed sustainable rebuilding efforts.

Housing is a universal need, one which is not adequately being provided in parts of the world. Our desire is to help meet this common need worldwide by introducing a new and unique structural element created with one of the worlds most sustainable and abundant crops. In doing so we hope to inspire and be a leader in the broader sustainable development movement.

http://bambitat.com/
currently engaged in the development of a hybrid for/non profit bamboo housing project. Updated drawings currently viewable at:

http://bamboocompetition.com/spages/1420-03.html

The “Perma Yurt” design is merely the logical beginning of an entirely new species of sustainable architecture.

Looking for access to acreage of bamboo, in the 30′ tall range and higher to be part of a world R+D/outreach/educational tour.

This system is based on working with bamboo’s tendency to crack upon harvesting. We will be adapting modern and ancient methods to break the bamboo into strips, then form glue-less, composite, “organic steel” beams. More info at the site.

Green Dimes|Tree planter & paper junk mail reduction

Green Dimes logo

GreenDimes was founded on the idea that we can each do small things every day that will collectively combat the continued degradation of our planet. The production, distribution and eventual disposal of junk mail is a profoundly wasteful and particularly unnecessary practice that annually wastes 100 million trees and $870 million in U.S. tax dollars. Unopened, unread bulk mail alone generates enough refuse to deforest the entire Rocky Mountain National Park, or fill 450,000 garbage trucks, which — if parked back-to-back, starting at that park — would extend westward to the Pacific Ocean.

For ten cents a day GreenDimes helps save time and trees by making sure that you stay off catalog publishers and direct mailers’ lists. Furthermore, a $4 monthly flat rate keeps the solicitors out and plants a tree in your name at a U.S. location of your choice.

Since GreenDimes.com’ September 2006 launch, 260,000 pounds of junk mail have been stopped, 138,000 trees planted or saved, and 669,000 gallons of water conserved thanks to Americans who give a dime.

Make every day an Earth Day.

Student MBA Program – The student MBA program provides interns to assist w/ GSN activities, program development and individual spa greening programs.

Professional Panels – Area specific panels comprised of experts and seed spa members tasked to create resources and policies for GSN in specific areas. Architects, Consultants, Equipment manufacturers, Skin Care products, ADA.

Brief History of GSN

  • Presented a general overview of GSN’s purpose to more than 50 attendees at the International Spa Association’s October 2005 meeting in Dallas, Texas. The response was overwhelming and GSN’s database now includes more than one hundred spas and spa professionals interested in becoming members of the network.
  • Enlisted a faculty member and student volunteers from San Francisco-based Presidio World College’s Green MBA program to participate in GSN’s first pilot project involving a prominent spa located in northern California.
  • Held first GSN Board Meeting following the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) conference in April 2006 in Santa Monica, California.
  • Completed the first of its kind on-line environmental survey of spa owners, operators/ managers, staff and other stakeholders. The survey was completed in June 2006; its findings have been compiled and are available to Seed Spas.
  • Developed consumer survey of attitudes and preferences for sustainable practices in spas, with the help of faculty and students at the Presidio World College’s MBA program in Sustainable Management.
  • Incorporated Green Spa Network as a 501(c)6 in the State of Georgia in Spring 2007, as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit, business league in accordance with the definition and regulations of the Internal Revenue Service.

Green life: Sustainable Works

Sustainable Works

Sustainable Works, based out of Santa Monica, California, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainability in the community. Our organization uses multiple programs in order to encourage environmental sustainability within the community. Our programs include a residential program, a student program, as well as a business greening program. I work for the student program here at Sustainable Works.

The student program entails nine 1 1/2 hour workshop sessions in which Santa Monica College students come to learn about how to live more sustainable lifestyles. Each week is dedicated to learning about a specific topic regarding the environment (food & shopping, travel & transportation, water, waste, etc.). During the workshops student review recommendations on how to change their lifestyle habits in order to be more sustainable when dealing with such topics. For example, during our waste week we discuss recommendations such as the importance of recycling as well as buying recycled products.

Rooted Creatives: the Abajo

The Abajo | Mexicali Blues

Mexicali 2/16/07 They say that an original band needs quite a bit of luck and timing to succeed these days – that having the right people see just the right performance is imperative. Hopefully, thats not true as the members of the abajo feel they may have used up their share of luck when these driven musicians from different backgrounds and different schools of thought found each other. The group has been developing their blend of eccentric rhythms, rich harmonies, and melodic instrumentation. They have come a long way since their first gigs in friends and families backyards. Becoming regulars on the college, festival and shore circuits, as well as frequenting hidden treasures like The Stanhope House (north Jersey), Lion’s Den (NYC), Frog and Peach (San Luis Obispo,Ca), Smiley’s (Bolinas, CA) and mainstays like The Stone Pony (Asbury Park, NJ), Mexicali Blues (Teaneck, NJ), 14 Below (Santa Monica California), 4th Street Tavern (San Rafael, Ca) and clubs throughout the USVI, the band is perpetually stretching its boundaries. Feeding off years of varied musical experience, their sound is both unique and familiar, and is receiving an enthusiastic response from a diverse audience. A progressive mix of reggae, roots rock, and bluegrass, the band covers a wide spectrum from structured compositions to unbridled improvisation. Whether playing for crowds back dropped by the waves of the Atlantic, the Pacific, trees and mountains at the festivals, or smoke filled rooms of the clubs, the abajo creates a musical experience that entertains and inspires. After a recent gig, the booking agent was overheard to say, I got a lot more than I expected – these guys rock. Their vibe and fans are great… The band is now a regular at the club.
